George and Nina’s banks
are a happily married couple. Their daughter Katherine is also married. This
marriage largely affects George. The couple’s children are all grown up and
this makes their house which is a three-storied one seem like it is too big and
also too empty for just them.  This is because apart from Kay getting
married, Matty will also be joining college. The house is also experiencing
maintenance problems as illustrated when they are all standing in the kitchen
and water is seen dripping from the ceiling. George puts the house on sale and
even promises to be out in ten days.

The family in the movie
seems to have a parent who has so much affection and attachment to his daughter
and almost is not ready to let go nor accept that she is expectant. However, after
some while, he comes to terms with it.

Although a fictional
setting, there is some sense of realism in the movie. The whole period when the
two ladies are expectant and the phases that they go through demonstrate the
various stages that pregnant women undergo. At the end, the affection that
George shows to his grandson and the emotions involved also has a reflection of
real life emotions. The love displayed by the family especially by George to
her daughter Maggie at the very end of the movie is also a display of
characters portrayed by normal, real families.

The movie opened me up to
understanding that almost all families experience conflicts and tension at some
point. It is, however, a perfect case showing how well families can blend
despite the circumstances. It portrays father-daughter relationships and
father-son relationships something that I realized is also present in my family
though not as a replica of the movie.

The two ladies getting
expectant at the same time in the family and the respective planning of their
baby showers shows some form of unity. Although the pregnancy of both had been
a big blow to George, he has had to come to terms with it slowly. He actually
was able to take care of both ladies giving them food and passionately placing
pillows in set positions to ensure they are comfortable. He also encouraged
them to exercise and took both of them to the gym thus strengthening the family
bond.

It also shows that it
does not matter about the time that your wife gets pregnant. It is good to
appreciate the pregnancy and collectively raise the child. Also, it shows the
kind of reactions that are expected especially in the case of an unexpected
pregnancy.

The families, in the
beginning, are not working in unison to counter the conflict which at some
point causes a major misunderstanding between George and the in-laws. Its shows
conflict which is though is my family just like in the movie, at last, gets to
be solved.

I first choose it due to
the title which shows that it is a family movie. After watching it, I realized
it has got nice family development lessons and therefore I decided to write
about it. I wrote about it since it displays a normal family setting as is
experienced in most of the families. More to this, it seems to experience most
of the normal phases that a family experiences. The depression that George goes
through not accepting the reality of the double pregnancy and how he gets over
it also acts as a great lesson to other families. The unity that is further
portrayed especially by George, Nina, and their daughter is incredible.
Finally, the values and vices, as well as lessons, have been brought out well
by the comedy that is displayed throughout the movie.
