Indian newspapers revealed its consistency of reporting the nations challenges
ahead. The newspapers focused on an array of political and social issues and
concerns in contrast to British reporting on societal events. According to Ray
(2009), “The press gradually became the most powerful weapon for the freedom
movement under leaders like Tilak, Gokhale, Gandhiji that stood for liberal
journalism, the believed notion that the press holds the power to shape the
nations destiny and civil rights and liberties of its citizens” (p.4).         

The legacy of a feudal/colonial
system culture of media is being quickly replaced by capitalism, the press, and
the publics need for news. Both capitalism and politics prosper on the
liberties of a democratic system that continues to function and evolve into a
hybrid of anarchy and order. For the past 62 years, globalization framed a
powerful medium of communication in India which facilitated into two
categories, the positive achievements and negative trends in the media. The
globalization impacted not only the market economy’s corporate capitalism but
also shaped the intertwining of television, internet and advertising.

The Ministry
of Information & Broadcasting play a significant part in helping people
access information through the mass communication media of radio, television,
films, the press, publications and advertising. Weaving knowledge and
entertainment in all divisions of society, balance between public interest,
commercial needs and delivery services. The ministry is responsible for
international collaboration of mass media, film and broadcasting, and unifies
foreign counterparts aiding India’s Government. Mass communication plays
a vital role in creating awareness among people about national policies and
programs by providing information and education. The ministry of information
and broadcasting is responsible for development and regulation of information

“Todays readers of print media have a wide variety of options to choose from
the publications devoted to specialized subjects because of diverse information
easily available on the account of technological development” (p. 7).  Print media’s technological breakthroughs gained
more readership by making by designing more attractive presentation layout,
improving color schemes and using multi-edition printing copies which are less
expensive and flow to more locations. Recent transmissions of news have not
only prompted large growth in readers, but also enable content to be
distributed significantly quicker nationally and globally.

In conclusion, globalization,
liberalization and emergence of technology impel print media to adapt and
rapidly grow. Quick adaption is a necessity to maintain the survival of print
media globally. India’s newspapers today are striving to delicately balance
competition with digital media distribution along deplorable design. Media has
acquired the power to shape a society’s likings, interests and considerable
content, and will continue to transform the structure of print journalism for
decades to come.
