After on the number of labourers he had.

After the Portuguese started to explore the coast of West Africa in the 16th century, it was the start of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. The Transatlantic Slave Trade was after the new world was discovered. It was the forced migration of Africans. It’s the time were explorers traded guns, copper, crops, sugar canes, guns, copper, slaves etc.. “( manufactured goods)” between the Old World ( Africa, Asia, and Europe) and the new world, which is the Americas, where a cycle was created. One of the main things was the trade of Slaves from Africa to the America. The three main reasons that caused the Transatlantic Slave Trade were the Cultural differences between Natives and Africans, Europeans wanting to harvest resources and improving their economy. One of the causes of the Transatlantic Slave Trade was Europeans demanding on plantation growth. Since plantation growth was an economic and social institution, the Europeans knew that since they could demand the African slaves to do what they want, they could help in the plantation growth. Just as it was stated in BBC bitesize, “Plantations required a large labour force to sustain production. Planters turned to slave labour as their main source of labour,” that was an example of the importance of slaves in plantation growth. The profit for the owner was based on the number of labourers he had. Europeans enslaved Africans since 1460 to grow sugar and many africans were farmers already.  In 18th century ordinary and rich people started using sugar, it became very profitable but the process of it was very “intensive”, production required a large labour force to plant, maintain, harvest and cultivate the sugar cane, so since they were in a rush, needed fast workers, cheap labor force, the answer was african slaves. The demand of labour grew as the growth of plantation took off. After Europeans expanded to West coast Africa, they were able to get to the slaves in Africa. “The growing demand for slaves from Europe meant that the African suppliers increased their activities. Chiefs and traders met the demand through warfare or by raids on small towns and villages.” (“BBC – History – British History In Depth: Africa And The Transatlantic Slave Trade.” N. p., 2018. Web. 23 Jan. 2018.) the demand for cheap labours was tremendous since they knew it will help develop their economy. African slaves worked without getting payed and since they didn’t get paid, the Europeans got to get more money from the hard work that the slaves did. Plantation owners and merchants contributed to the economic growth. The African traders used goods to buy slaves from other traders more further. “In ships departed from Liverpool and other ports in England carrying trade good to West Africa, where they exchanged their goods for enslaved Africans ” (” Background: Why Were Africans Enslaved? – International Slavery Museum, Liverpool Museums .” N. p., 2018. Web. 23 Jan. 2018.) Africans didn’t have a choice in being slaves, they were forced. The reason for choosing Africans is because they are hardworking and they are used to all of the work better than any other countries, so they didn’t have to worry about teaching the Africans how to work because they were experienced already making them more profit. Cultural differences is one of the main causes of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Looking back at the slave trade, there weren’t any native Americans used for labour. It’s not that they didn’t want them to be slaves but there were some reasons that prevented them from becoming slaves. “Native peoples lacked genetic immunities to Old-World diseases like smallpox and malaria and suffered catastrophic mortality – over 90% of the native population of the Americas perished from Old-World diseases after contact.” (” Background: Why Were Africans Enslaved? – International Slavery Museum, Liverpool Museums .” N. p., 2018. Web. 23 Jan. 2018.) So since they were sick, they weren’t able to work because they didn’t have any energy and to prevent spreading their diseases, but Africans had immunities. Another reason for natives not being a part of the slave trade was because of their religion, Christianity. “In the Bible, physical or spiritual slavery is often a consequence of sinful actions, while darkness is associated with evil.” ( “BBC – Religions – Christianity: Atlantic Slave Trade And Abolition.” N. p., 2018. Web. 23 Jan. 2018.). For them, they converted to Christianity not to spare them, not to harm them and they defeated the purpose of spreading their religion. And a clear reason for not using natives is because they cared more about them than the Africans, since they were natives, they didn’t want their population to decrease so they wouldn’t care about the Africans as much as they would care about the Natives. With over four million slaves in the South, the act of ending slavery trade became effective on the first day of 1808. Despite all the development and all the profit the Europeans gained out of the Atlantic slave trade, it wasn’t the right solution for gaining money, developing their economy, plantation growth, nor for not being able to use the Natives, there was still a negative side of the story, like Africa’s population decreased a lot, not just because they were forced to leave Africa but also for dying from torture.
